Hillcrest Park is a quiet, family-run site set in 6 acres in the heart of Teesdale which welcomes adults only. Surrounded by farmland, it offers peace and tranquillity with beautiful views yet only a short drive from the A66 or A67. There are glamping pods, touring pitches and holiday cottages - ideal for walkers, cyclists and dog owners. Nearby is Richmond, Barnard Castle, High Force Waterfall, Raby Castle and the Yorkshire Dales.

About Hillcrest Park

The site is set in an ideal location for exploring the many attractions in the Yorkshire and Durham Dales. You'll be staying between Barnard Castle and Richmond, where there is much to see and do locally. The Lake District, Yorkshire Coast, Yorkshire Dales and Moors are an easy daytrip away too. The park was once a working farm, but the outbuildings have been converted into holiday cottages. Most of the pitches are given to seasonal caravanners, however there are a couple of hardstanding pitches provided with electric hook-up points for short stay touring caravans and motorhomes (sorry, no tents). For those who want all the pleasure of camping and outdoorsiness, but without bringing the tent, there are ten timber glamping pods for adults only. The glamping pods are an empty, carpeted space with heaters, lights and electric so don't forget to bring all your camping kit - apart from the tent. However, there is a picnic table outside each pod and a communal campers' kitchen in the amenity building. Lots of spots for seasonal pitches too, all with electric. There are also luxury holiday lodges for sale and holiday cottages for rent. Most importantly, all guests experience a comfortable and rural retreat where they can get away from it all.

Open from 1 January to 20 December

Facilities and amenities

Site facilities include free showers and loos, and in the amenity building, there is a communal campers' kitchen with hotplates, microwaves, kettles, toasters and a fridge - so you can cook in the dry, whatever the weather. All pods have access to their own allocated private loo and shower.

Campers kitchen with kettles, toasters, sink and a fridge. There is also a shop and pop-up café.

There is a good local pub just up the road, called the Brownlow Arms, which is dog friendly and serves great food. A short drive away in Gainford there is a fish and chip shop.

Teesdale is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and you won't be short of things to do and see! There's plenty of great walking, from castles to gardens, England's highest waterfall and world class art collections. There is much to see here, whatever the weather.

Barnard Castle, the pretty market town at the centre of Teesdale, is just 7 miles away and is home to the Bowes Museum, which was founded by John and Josephine Bowes in the 19th century and built in the style of a grand French chateau, making a striking impact on its surroundings.

Raby Castle, one of England's finest medieval castles, can be seen from Hillcrest. It has a 200 acre deer park, and is open to visitors over the Easter Weekend and then from May to September. High Force, the highest single drop waterfall in England, is located further up the Dale but makes up part of the estate and is well worth a visit.

The park is also close to several routes on the National Cycle Network, including the Walney to Whitby route.

The ever popular Beamish Museum is less than an hour away, and even closer is Head of Steam, The Darlington Railway Museum, home of Stephenson's Locomotion No 1, built for the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

If you enjoy a good long walk, pick up the Teesdale Way at Winston Gate (just down the road). Or if you prefer more relaxing pastimes, The Brownlow Arms in Caldwell (1.5m away) is a dog-friendly pub, serving food.

For active visitors, Hamsterley Forest, with its range of mountain bike trails and great walking, is just over 30mins drive away and offers a great day out.

Towards Richmond (a 20min drive away), you have Richmond Castle, Aysgarth Falls and all the the Yorkshire Dales have to offer.
