FAQ

This popular but tiny island is within Essex's Blackwater and Colne estuaries and less than 10 miles from Colchester.

Twice in every 24 hour period it reaches high tide and this can often block road entry to the island. It's important to be sure of the tide times to make sure you aren't caught out by the rising tide.

Dogs are allowed on Mersea Island's stone and sandy beaches and also in lots of pubs and cafes on the island. There are excellent walks to be had around Cudmore Grove Country Park and the dog walking trail at Fingringhoe Wick. Choose from lots of dog friendly campsites too.
