Nice little campsite Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Pitches Jul 2024 Nice little campsite. Hot showers, bit of road noise.
Good for couple of days. Great pub next door. Bit pricey but food looked good and nice staff.
Good location near lakes and Helvellyn.
Great location, has everything you need Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 This campsite is in a great location with easy direct access to multiple paths up into the hills or to the reservoir right on the doorstep. We did a great circular hike to the summit of Helvellyn. We also used the bus stop which is right outside to go to Keswick and Ambleside, which was really handy.
The pitches are no frills but with a fantastic backdrop of the hills. Facilities are fine and clean. There's also the pub right next door. We had a meal and drinks at different times which were all great and the staff were very friendly.
There is quite a lot of traffic noise at the site is on a busy road but it quietened down in the evenings and really didn't bother us.
Very proper but rural Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 For 1-2 nights to explore the region is it perfect. Bus stop is close to the camping.
Lovely little stay Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 This is a lovely, tidy campsite at the foot of Helvellyn and many other fells. Perfect for those loving to hike. The site is truly remote in the sense that there is no phone connection, which was lovely. The pub next door has excellent food and Wi-Fi.
The toilet, shower and washing up area was tidy and clean throughout our stay. The site is next to the A591, which wasn't a problem for us as there was little traffic during the night, however not ideal for those looking for total peace and quiet.
Small site near Ambleside Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 A basic site just off the main road. Facilities adequate and a lovely pub within 2 mins walk.
Hassle free Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 Easy access. Next to pub, although shuts at 9:30. Dog welcome. Clean. Shower & dish washing available. Electric hook up for camper van. Great walks on doorstep. Will use again.
Excellent site Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 Great location with a wonderful pub and restaurant.
On the foothill of Helvellyn Recommends site
Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 The pitches were very good with water and electricity close by.
Shower and toilets were basic, but well maintained and clean. The owner was very helpful and made you feel welcome. The site is very central for walks and has a bus stopping close by. This gets you quickly to Grasmere or Keswick. There is a pub next door.
The big problem is a very noisy road very close by, therefore low location mark.
Helvellyn heaven Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Pitches May 2024 Absolutely fabulous location. Across the road, Thirlmere is a 5 minutes walk. Up the hill, Helvellyn is a 4 hour walk. Woodland up the road by 300m, and is a great little circuit.
Quiet, with occasionally noisy bikes whizzing past. Respectful campers. Washing up water too hot for kids. Showers spotless toilets spotless. What an awesome stay.
Convenient location Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 Nice site in a convenient central location. Facilities are more basic, but very clean and well maintained. Shower had plenty of hot water. Some road noise but not excessive.
Easy access for Keswick or Helvellyn, and there is a pub on the doorstep.
Peaceful Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 Located on the main road, which isn't busy at night so nice and quiet.
There is a stream running between the bays and the road, which seemed loud but didn't hear it in the van. Beautiful 3 mile walk up the hill. Right next to a pub. My bay was flat and level.
Facilities were sufficient. Plan ahead as there's no phone reception.
All the basics in a great landscape Recommends site
Motorhome - Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 All the basics (shower, toilets, electric) are there. Best suited for campers and motorhomes. Convenient place next to a pub for food and Wi-Fi. Walks are great, as is the landscape. Don't expect too much luxury. Decent price. Bus stop in front of the campsite with frequent connections to Keswick and Windermere.
Lovely stay as always Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 This is a very basic site with a small number of pitches. However, it is always a lovely place to stay. The people that stay there always seem to be very respectful and the owners are helpful.
It is conveniently positioned right next to a pub which serves nice food and drinks with a large outdoor seating area, great for sunny days. It is a short drive to many good walks and is also a short drive to Keswick town centre.
I have no reason to look at any other sites when going to the lakes, as we always have the most pleasant of stays at Thirlspot Farm. The only thing to note is that the site is just off a fairly busy road, so you can expect some road noise in the morning, but this is not enough by any means to prevent me from returning.
Good spot Recommends site
Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches May 2024 Good value for the price. There is a good pub next door, so no need to drive. It’s next to a busy road, but there is very little traffic between 11 on and 7 AM. Good access to the NW lakes.
Good break Recommends site
Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches Apr 2024 Friendly farmer, good pub/restaurant next door, good bus service that stops outside gate. Noisy road close by, but does quieten off in evening.
Great spot with good facilities and friendly hosts Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Non Electric Hardstanding Pitches Apr 2024 Really enjoyed stopping over and will certainly return. Quiet and well maintained site. Owners are lovely people who make guests feel welcome and comfortable.
Decent little site Motorhome - Electric Hardstanding Pitches Apr 2024 Decent site good for hilly walks with pub nearby, but site is very close to main road.
A great site VW-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches Apr 2024 Great little site at the foot of Helvellyn, across the road from Thirlmere reservoir, and next door to the Kings Head pub. Cracking little spot. Good facilities on site, great connections to walks straight from the site. Bus stops bang out front to Keswick or down to Grasmere.
The kings head has great beers, awesome Guinness and outstanding food.
My only slight grumble (and it is slight) was the hard standing I booked wasn't fully hard standing, and being at the foot of hills in the lakes, the grass pitch to the side was really boggy. We still managed to get the awning on it, but had quite a clean up mission before packing up.
In short a great site, well located, great facilities and would definitely revisit.
Grand little spot! Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass Pitches Apr 2024 We had a very pleasant couple of nights here. Right next to a pub and great for walks nearby.
Great for Helvellyn Motorhome - Electric Hardstanding Pitches Apr 2024 Quiet and beautiful spot by Thirlmere and within walking distance of Helvellyn, or a long stroll to Keswick.
A pub, walks and public transport on the doorstep Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Hardstanding Pitches Apr 2024 Booked a hardstanding pitch, with no electric for 2 nights. The toilets were clean, with 2 showers in the female block and very warm water.
Although it was very close to the road, I did not hear the traffic at night.
The pub next door is very welcoming and serves good food.
There's a bus stop outside the campsite where you can get to Keswick and Ambleside and the buses were very clean.
Beautiful Recommends site
Single Axle Caravan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches Apr 2024 Beautiful caravan park with everything you need for a relaxing stay.
Lots of reviews complaining about the busy road. There is a stream and a fence with trees which separated the road from the caravan park, and though you can hear traffic during the day, by night-time, the road is quiet.
Toilets and showers were spotless. The owner was very friendly and helped us to pull our caravan onto the pitch.
This is a beautiful location with valleys and mountains to be seen from the comfort of your caravan. If you venture up the hills, you can see the beautiful lake. Will definitely be back here again.
Picturesque location Recommends site
Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Hardstanding Pitches Apr 2024 A fabulous spot in the Lake District. Friendly and helpful owners. Lots of great walks from the site. Buses from outside the gate to both Keswick and Kendal.
Great stay Recommends site
Motorhome - Electric Hardstanding Pitches Mar 2024 Great site with amazing views. Convenient bus route.
Lovely Recommends site
VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Hardstanding Pitches Sep 2023 Great price and great location. Sat-Nav does take you to the farm next door initially, so watch for the Thirlspot Farm name on white sign.
Showers are in an old farm building and everything was clean. I'd only add that hooks by the sinks would be handy for wash bags to go on. Pub next door did an excellent dinner. Can use their Wi-Fi before heading back to camp for the night Owner recommended a lovely walk too.
Road noise that others complained of didn't bother me at all - it's not the M25.
