About the site
Cheglinch offers wild camping in one of two fields in rural North Devon, suitable for tents only.
The pop-up, gently sloping, site is open on selected days during the summer months, and allows you to enjoy the fresh Devonshire air and spectacular views while the sun shines (hopefully!), before the site reverts back to its traditional agricultural use.
The site is located in a quiet and isolated spot on the outskirts of a working farm. However, it is easily reached, within half a mile of the A361 and the village of West Down (which offers a well-stocked community shop and pub). It's a perfect base for exploring the delightful North Devon surfing beaches, just a short drive away.
The unmarked pitches allow you to choose your preferred location and there is masses of room so children have open space to run and play.
The site is predominantly a peaceful, tranquil place interrupted only by sounds of livestock grazing in neighbouring fields. However, there may be the occasional day where tractors can be seen and heard working nearby - don't forget you are at the heart of the countryside after all!
If you enjoy an open campfire then the campsite fire pits (available to hire) are just what you need. Wood is also available to purchase on site and barbecues are permitted as long as they are kept off the ground.
Facilities are basic, ideal for a back-to-basics wild camping experience. There is a mains water tap providing fresh water, washing up sink with cold water and clean portable toilet. Showers are not provided on site, so guests should bring their own or beach showers can be found at nearby Woolacombe, Saunton and Putsborough beaches.
There is a local bus stop within half a mile of the campsite.
A note from the site themselves...
I'm Ella, and together with my husband Simon and our three little adventurers, we run Cheglinch Farm Glamping, nestled in the heart of our family dairy farm in North Devon.
Our journey started when a leaflet about starting a glamping spot on our farm came through our door. At first, we shrugged it off, but fate had other plans. It somehow resurfaced, piquing our curiosity. We couldn't find the setup we wanted until we stumbled upon the enchanting Lotus Belle tent during a family day out and we thought they would be perfect!
So, we decided to share our idyllic corner of North Devon with fellow nature lovers. We offer you not just a stay but a delightful experience rooted in nine generations of family farming. Join us under the open sky and enjoy the magic of nature. See you soon, Ella and the Cheglinch Family
Small Tent - Wild Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2023
I have stayed at Cheglinch camping on my visits to Ilfracombe for the past few years. It is a good basic site at a very reasonable price. The field is large with plenty of room. A number of good eco toilets. There are no showers but the site does not claim any. The site is clean with plenty of bins. A very good pub is 15 mins walk.
The fact that I revisit every year is the best recommendation.
I love being in the Cheglinch field

Bell Tent - Lotus Belle TentsAug 2023
We stayed in a pre pitched bell tent in the camping area, which offered beautiful views of the countryside with sheep in the distance. The tent was large enough to comfortably accommodate 2 adults, 2 teens and a toddler.
The facilities offered for the campers are relatively basic - running water (cold only) in sinks in the field, as well as 4 compost toilets (very well maintained, with fairy lights, air freshener and hand sanitiser) available. You can rent a fire pit for Β£2 per night and buy a bag of firewood for Β£5.
The glamping area looked very lovely too, with private outside cooking areas as well as a games room, football goals and a washing machine.
The camping area is relatively hands off, which gave a real camping experience. The location is ideal being in a quiet area, but within a 15 minute drive from Ilfracombe and Woolacombe.
