A note from the site themselves...

Allan and I are very keen campers. Over the years, we have camped in everything from a tent to our wonderful little motorhome. Then, whilst sitting outside our motorhome with a glass of wine, we dreamed of running a small, relaxing campsite on the edge of Dartmoor. How hard can it be to realise that dream said optimistic Allan!

We have brought that dream to reality several long years and many battles later. We couldn't afford to buy an established site, but hey, where would the fun have been if we hadn't started from scratch and created our campsite ourselves.

Finding and securing such a beautiful location next to a Special Site of Scientific Interest and then getting planning permission took over four years. We were careful to ensure we looked after the natural environment that makes us unique during construction. To complete this site took drive and determination, and we couldn't have done it without the help of our extended families and friends.

We hope you will enjoy the fruits of our labour, relax in the beauty of the site and delight in the peacefulness of this wonderful location, Debbie

Single Axle Caravan - Electric Grass and Gravel PitchesSep 2025

Great site and location let down by it's access road and dated facilities. On arrival, you have to navigate a narrow and very pot-holed track, anything more than walking pace is likely to incur damage. The facilities housed in a log cabin structure were always very clean. However, the shower cubicles are small with no separate area to undress and dry in. The net result being that unless you are very careful, all your clothes and towels get wet. Also, whilst I appreciate the need to save water, especially hot water, "push button" activated shower controls with no temperature adjustment is very off putting. Having to repeatedly press the button for more water is an absolute pain. The BBQ van on Friday and Fish and Chips van on Monday are a real positive, especially on a cold and wet night and you don't feel like venturing out.

Delightful

Things to do on site and in the Newton Abbot area

Chudleigh Knighton Heath is a heathland mosaic of gorse, heather and grassland. This was once the landscape which stretched for miles across what is known locally as the Bovey Basin. Spot the wildlife, including the nightjar, stonechat, glow worms and the four-spotted chaser.

Dartmoor National Park is just moments away from the park. Explore this incredible open landscape and spend the day admiring the waterfalls, heading through forests and wandering ruins. Explore the picturesque villages, go rambling, cycling, letterboxing, horse riding, or just picnicking and having fun beside the streams and rivers.

There is a short five minute walk through the nature reserve to Chudleigh Knighton. The historic town of Bovey Tracey is just over five minutes away by car or bike, or take a scenic 40 minute walk.

Bovey Tracey is one of the main gateway towns to Dartmoor, with several unique visitor attractions and a good variety of shops. A pretty cob and Dartmoor-granite built town, situated on the River Bovey, it's home to the internationally renowned Devon Guild of Craftsmen, based in a 19th century watermill on the river.

Hennock is just above the site, towering 800 feet over the Teign Valley. This is a peaceful village with a proper Devon village pub, the Palk Arms, and stunning walks to the Trenchford, Tottiford and Kennick reservoirs.

Five minutes away is 114 acres of woodland, heathland, grassland, lake and marsh that make up Stover Country Park. Here, you'll see a wide variety of wildlife, including birds, insects, dragonflies and damselflies as well as small mammals. Enjoy a picnic by Stover Lake and its marsh.

The coastal towns of Teignmouth and Torquay, and the town of Totnes, are all within easy reach to make your holiday different every day.
