Things to do in Dawlish
Home to several of Devon's holiday parks, the area around Dawlish and Dawlish Warren is perfect family holiday fodder.
There are several Blue Flag beaches in and around the town, including Croyton Cove to the south, breath-taking Dawlish Warren Beach to the north, and Dawlish beach itself. Situated in a sheltered bay, the town beach is great for swimming and pleasure boating.
Across the estuary at Dawlish Warren, there's also an excellent Nature Reserve with winding trails where you can enjoy nature and see a wide variety of wading birds. Or just down from the beach, the town itself is situated around The Lawn, home to the famous Dawlish black swans. Take the kids and some bird food to see these beautiful creatures, or just enjoy the great mix of local restaurants, cafes and bars.
At Teignmouth, 3 miles away, Shaldon Zoo makes a brilliant day out - perhaps combined with a visit to the Teignmouth Lido. And just to the north is the Ashcombe Adventure Centre where you can enjoy shooting, archery, paintball and a number of high adrenaline driving sports which pack a thrill.
Traditionally, the first residents of Dawlish were fishermen and salt makers, so there is lots of interesting history to check out back in town at the Dawlish Museum.
Walkers of all ages are well catered for in Dawlish, with pretty river views on offer on the Town Trail, or plenty of hiking and cycling tracks at Dartmoor National Park. Further afield, Exeter and Exmouth have lots of attractions if you fancy venturing out of town such as Powderham Castle and Go Ape.
