About the site

A relaxed camping and glamping site in Somerset, within easy distance to the spectacular Cheddar Gorge. The mantra at Petruth Paddocks is that while people may not remember exactly what you did or what you said, they will never forget how you made them feel. Just bring your tent, speak with the owners for recommendations on pitching, then pitch up on the spacious camping fields wherever you choose. The owners encourage a sensible approach to pitches so young couples aren't put next to a lively family, and quiet families aren't pitched next to hen parties. There are also some exciting glamping options available. The shepherd's huts are stylish and hand-built locally. These are complete with either two or four double mattresses, full bedding and electric points for the mod-cons - make yourselves right at home! Opt for fantastic bell tents with electricity if you prefer the camping experience without the hassle. All you need to bring is your bedding. For a unique experience, opt for the American School Bus! Complete with everything you need it's great for all ages, this unique accommodation is equipped with a double bed, two bunk beds and a single futon. There is also a fully equipped kitchen, a dining table, an ensuite bathroom, a BBQ, heating and charging points to charge all your gadgets. Or, keep it quirky with the Yellow Submarine! A unique glamping experience with real portholes, dials and gauges, the kids are sure to love it! The submarine is equipped with a double bed, a single bunkbed and a sofa that converts to another single. Bedding is provided. There is a galley kitchen for all of your cooking needs and even a BBQ outside. Stay in a Gypsy Bowtops, where each interior is decorated differently. Sleeping up to four, each is equipped with two double mattresses, a table, a kitchen and USB charging points. All cooking is done outdoors and there is a table for al fresco dining in the evenings. The team at Petruth Paddocks is passionate about enabling young people to experience the joy of adventure that running around fields and making new friends can bring. Parents can relax, switch off from the rat race and enjoy the outdoor life watching their children from afar, safely enjoying the simple things in life, just like they did growing up. You'll often see Jules and the rest of the family chatting around the campfire with visitors, hearing guest stories. Guests love the site's approach, with no unnecessary rules (just sensible ones) and a genuine interest in their well-being. Dogs are welcome.

A note from the site themselves...

Petruth Paddocks was named after Jules's parents Peter and Ruth -wonderful parents who instilled many of the values we hold today and we hope you'll experience during your stay.

We opened our doors in 2003 to under 100 people with just a tap and a tank and learnt largely by our mistakes but now have 36 taps and welcome over 18,000 people each year.

Step off the hamster-wheel and re-connect with family and friends - catch your breath, open your eyes and remind yourself what life's really all about - the really important stuff.....

You'll likely not remember what we say or do whilst you're here but hopefully you'll remember how we made you feel - that's our sole purpose and we really hope we hit the mark.

Large Tent - Electric Grass PitchesApr 2025

Our greeting was lovely and welcoming & we were shown not only around the site, but a plethora of local walking routes and things to do which we tried out during our stay. Pitching was easy and straightforward, we were on electrical hook up and had £3 included. Chose to top this up due to predicted cold temperatures overnight and wanting to use the electric blankets - that was very straight forward. When we went to purchase our firepit and wood, it was delivered to our pitch after payment, so no need to carry wood/heavy items about. Our main gripe was that it wasn't until the first evening when we sent the teenagers to fill our water containers from the drinking water tap, that they discovered it was covered in bird mess. Must admit, we were reluctant to believe them at first, thinking small sparrow mess etc & sent them off with a wipe but in daylight the next eve, it was obvious that they weren't exaggerating. It was literally covered and not very pleasant at all and obviously hadn't been cleaned/checked during the day! The other facilities however were good, individual toilet cubicles which were nice. However, lots of young children seemingly used them unattended and you often had to be picky or 'wipe up' before using them. Showers were hot and again individual and there was plenty of space to get changed.

Beautiful site
