Approach Farm Caravan Site

Approach Farm has been managed by the Gowthorpe family since 1943. There has been a caravan site here since the 1980s, originally a small CL site, which was then replaced with a larger 16 pitch site in 2005. In 2025, three of the pitches were allocated to seasonal use to meet demand for this, with the remaining pitches left for touring customers.

It is a small, quiet site with a laid back feel, with lots of friendly regulars. In addition to the caravan site, Approach Farm also offers a secure storage facility for caravans, motorhomes etc, so giving customers the option of store and stay.

Subject to availability, there is also a tow on and off service, whereby customers can request their caravan to be put on site and put back into storage afterwards, allowing customers to simply park up, plug in the electric and sit back and relax (this service is chargeable).

The farm is a working farm, we grow cereal crops such as wheat, barley, oats, beans and oil seed rape. The farm is managed to work with nature as much as possible, using nature based options to enhance its productivity whilst supporting as much diversity as possible.

The number of wildlife species has increased over the past 10 years as the farm has moved away from conventional management through ploughing/cultivation to a regenerative approach.

As such, the soil is no longer disturbed by cultivation or growing root crops. Instead, all crop seeds are planted directly into shallow slots in the soil created by a disk, followed by a roller that closes the slot. This has benefitted the soil biology immensely, helping to provide the foundation for nature to thrive alongside food production.
