Enjoy starry nights and campfires on a peaceful wildflower meadow with views of Dorset heathland. Camp at Primrose Fields Campsite by venerable oak trees and take midnight walks. Let the children play, chase butterflies and enjoy the rope swing. Fire pits and large BBQs are available onsite. Great walking/cycling straight from site on the Frome Valley Trail, Hardy Way and NCN 2. Spectacular Purbeck and the Jurassic Coast are a short drive away.

About the site

Relaxed rural family camping is available on an 11 acre wildflower meadow. It's camping in wild surroundings, but with the comfort of clean and well maintained facilities. Primrose Fields is close to the Frome Valley Trail and Hardy Way for lovely walks - bring your dog too! It's also ideal for cyclists - just off National Cycle Network Route 2 and the excellent cycling around the Purbecks. There are no set pitches and most of the field is flat for easy pitching. With plenty of room, groups of family and friends will find it easy to camp together. Children love the field, it's always great to see them enjoying the space, making friends, den building, using the rope swing and spotting butterflies and other wildlife. Great transport links via the Wareham and Wool stations on main Waterloo to Weymouth line make this site perfect for a weekend getaway.

Site facilities include clean and well maintained toilets, hot showers with private changing cubicles, washing up facilities, mains drinking water and chemical toilet emptying. Logs, kindling, and charcoal are for sale, and the use of a site fire pit is included in the purchase price of the firewood. Campfires and BBQs are allowed and there are two large BBQs available for hire.

Enjoy a drink at the Black Dog Inn next to the campsite. Nearby shops for supplies in Wool and Wareham are five minutes away.

A note from the site themselves...

This field formed part of my grandparent's farm and I grew up playing here and in the forest nearby, so I really enjoy sharing this lovely place with visitors, especially seeing children enjoying the outdoor space and families getting together around the campfires.

The field has not been ploughed, reseeded or sprayed with chemicals in over 50 years, so it has reverted to natural grassland with diverse wild flowers and butterflies.

I manage the field following a traditional hay meadow method to support this diversity. I also love biking and hiking around the Isle of Purbeck and Dorset and I'm happy to advise on places to visit, especially if you want to escape the holiday crowds.

Had a great stay here again, fourth time now, facilities are great with good showers, the location is really good, with Durdle Door and Studland about 20 minutes away, there's also a Sainsbury's supermarket just down the road in Wareham. We ordered a firepit and logs which was really good, kids love it.

Check-in is available from noon until 9pm. Please advise the site if you are delayed. Departure is due before noon on your last day.
Yes, a max three dogs are welcome to join you here, provided they are kept on a lead onsite and are not a breed/crossbreed listed under the Dangerous Dogs Act or the following - Rottweiler, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, any Mastiff or Tosa. The woods next door to the site is ideal for dog walks.
BBQs and campfires are permitted, and the site have two large BBQs plus fire pits available to hire - wood, charcoal and kindling is also sold onsite.
Guests can bring one of each free of charge.

Things to do on site and in the Wareham area

Bring your walking shoes, your bike and your swimmers! The long distance Frome Valley Trail, Hardy Way and National Cycle Route 2 all pass 10 mins walk away.

This section of NCN 2 also forms part of the Tour de Manche, the 1,200 km cycling route around the Jurassic Coast and Normandy. The traffic-free Sika Trail in Wareham Forest is ideal for cycling with children.

Take the kids to Dorset Waterpark near Corfe Castle for lake swimming with fun inflatables. Book up with one of the excellent local adventure sports companies such as Land and Wave for kayaking/coasteering/bushcraft.

Wildlife enthusiasts young and old will be captivated by RSPB Arne as featured on the BBC's Winterwatch and the rockpooling and snorkelling trail at Kimmeridge.

The fascinating Etches Museum at Kimmeridge brings the fossils of the Jurassic Coast to life. Monkey World and the Tank Museum both make a great day out with children, as does Farmer Palmer's Farm Park. There are spectacular countryside views and dark skies at night for star gazing.

A walk along the river or around the walls at Wareham is perfect, rounded off with fish and chips on the quay, a popular spot for swimming, picnics and boating on a hot summer's day. Or drift up the beautiful River Frome on a kayak or paddle board hired by the bridge at Wareham.

National Trust Studland or Corfe Castle and village both make great days out, with the steam train from Norden down to the seaside at Swanage also great fun. Nearby Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door combine dramatic coastline with fantastic swimming and snorkelling.

The pretty Purbeck stone village of Worth Matravers makes a great base for walks to Winspit, with its rocky lagoon under the cliffs and St Aldhelms Head with its magnificent views along the coast. Finish off with home brewed cider and a pasty at the quirky Square and Compass with its eccentric museum of Jurassic curiosities.
