About the site

This welcoming camping and glamping site is set on a 140-acre family farm in the low Weald of East Sussex. Head here for sweeping country views, sheep in the paddocks next door and fantastic walking trails nearby, including the Cuckoo Trail. Suitable for tents and small campervans, there are 42 pitches available on the camping field, each with plenty of space to enjoy a restful break. All pitches are first come, first serve. It wouldn't be camping without a campfire, either! The site has fire pits to borrow, and log bundles are available onsite to keep the fire burning. For glamping, experience a relaxed rural escape in one of the fully furnished bell tents. Except for a good book, all you need to bring is yourselves! Sleeping up to two adults and three children, there are three beautiful bell tents - Lovelily, Ruby and Zephyr. All are fully furnished with a king-size bed and a few other home luxuries, including a kitchen box with essentials (plates, bowls, mugs, cutlery, pots and pans etc.) and a picnic table outside. Sorry, no dogs are allowed.

A note from the site themselves...

Our family friendly site is based on a 140 acre family farm. The site is run by myself and my husband and we have been lucky enough to live here since the 1990s with our two daughters, Lily and Ruby.

Every spring, you will also see Blue Texel ewes that lamb, along with our lovely border collie sheepdog, Floss. We also have horses, Harry, Maisie and Ricco, and our lovely cats - Ethel and Ernie.

Though we might be biased, we can't get enough of rural life. We like to think our little site provides a haven for our campers and hope to welcome you soon, Nicola

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass Pitches (Weekly)Aug 2025

The first day we arrived it was extremely windy and found it extremely difficult to pitch my tent. Steve, the owner, very kindly assisted and the tent was secured. The weather improved and l enjoyed an idyllic stay at Fontmills Farm. All the facilities were kept clean on a daily basis and communication between the owners Steve and Nicola, top class. There are fire pits which are offered free of charge, wood and kindle pack at a competitive price. All tents have plenty of space, it's a children's paradise to be able to ride their bikes freely, play bowl and generally play as kids do in a safe environment. On the first evening we enjoyed an Indian meal in Hailsham called The Royal Indian. There is access to The Cuckoo Trail via the farm, you walk through an ancient wood on your way to Horam. We visited the emporium where we browsed and had a tasty breakfast in The Cuckoo Cafe which adjoins it. There is also The Mermaids Lounge which specialises in fish dishes. There are plenty of places to visit from the farm, The South Downs Country Park and Eastbourne are under thirty minutes. We will definitely return as thoroughly enjoyed our week.

Great hosts, needs more showers

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2025

The hosts - Nicola and Steve - are wonderful. So friendly and helpful. The site is good with lots of farm animals to visit and good cleaning area. The only downside are the showers. Only two on site and you walk straight into the shower (and toilets) from outside - in other words there isn't a shower or toilet block. Just standalone toilets and standalone showers.

Great countryside site

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2025

Pros. A lovely open field campsite. Very friendly welcome and nice little reception for some basics. No pets and no music allowed kept it peaceful which we like as a family. Picnic tables available to share is a nice touch to make mealtimes civilised. Being near the Cuckoo Trail is nice for a walk, and the vineyard next door was great for a tour and tasting. Pitches were large and mostly level and good grass. Fire pits to borrow were a nice addition. Enough showers and toilets for a full site and everything was well kept. Cons. The wood we were sold was damp and would barley burn - we had to find another solution. Whilst the location is lovely, getting anywhere like shops or a pub without a car is a bit too far so consider that. I loathe those showers that you need to keep pressing. Great for saving water, but really annoying to shower under.7 The floodlight by the showers is blinding at night if you camp opposite it - could be changed for something less intense, there is no need for so much light to be shone across the campsite for someone to get to the lav, especially when everyone has torches anyway.
