Things to do in Penzance
The town and port of Penzance in the west of Cornwall boasts a variety of outdoor activities that are sure to keep even the most adventurous visitor entertained! Chapel Street is a great place to start when exploring the town's shops, restaurants and pubs, and there are some great walking tours to give you a feel for the area.
Adventure enthusiasts shouldn't pass up on the opportunity to give coasteering a try, and Kernos Coasteering run beginner sessions throughout the year. A day out with Mermaid Pleasure Trips on a wildlife watching boat is always good fun too.
Don’t forget to check out the Penlee House Gallery and Museum, the Stoneman Gallery and the Exchange Gallery which all showcase a mix of local and national artists. And if you fancy something a little bit different, the Egyptian House makes for great photos with its stunning exterior.
Many of the beaches in the area are pebbled, but East Beach is sandy, very shallow and dog friendly too. Wherrytown on the way to Newlyn is a good beach for swimming, as is Lamorna Cove, while Marazion's beach is not too far away and has the added bonus of those breathtaking views out to St Michael's Mount.
Walkers and those who enjoy exploring on two wheels should check out the Penzance to Marazion Coast Path, while nature and history lovers alike will find exploring the Boscawen-un stone circle, Chysauster Ancient Village, Mên-an-Tol and the Merry Maidens stone circle time well spent.
Nearby, the Minack Theatre is an absolute must-see. The open-air theatre allows visitors to enjoy great shows with superb sea views. The Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, Tanglewood, and Trengwainton Garden are all lovely outdoor spaces to explore too.
Land's End, the most westerly point in mainland Britain, is not far away and is one of those bucket list items that's hard to ignore.
