About Wayfaring Farm Camping

Wayfaring Farm Camping offers scenic, organic land that hugs the lower slopes of the South Downs. Easy to access by car, public transport or on foot, the large camping field is big on views and gives plenty of room between tents, with just nine permitted (seven pitches and two bell tents). The main camping area is at the top of the land. The top part of the land has six terraces, allowing flat camping with great views. At the top of the land and slightly tucked into the woods is Badger's Corner, which accommodates three medium tent pitches or 2 large tents-perfect for two families. Bell tent Forget-Me-Not is situated on its own terrace at Rose Briar, with plenty of space around it and great views. Measuring 5 metres, the tent has a comfy double bed, cosy rugs, mood lighting, is fully equipped and sleeps four. It has its own eco toilet. The Campion bell tent is situated on its own terrace at Hazel Hill, also with plenty of space around it and great views. This 5m bell tent has a comfy double bed, cosy rugs, mood lighting, sleeps four, and is fully equipped. It has its own eco toilet. Car access is permitted for up to 10 cars which can be parked in the first field, and wheel barrows are available to transport your things to your bell tent or camping pitch. Please note that the terrain is steep in places, and is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. Guests staying here must take any rubbish away with them. Only wood purchased onsite may be used.

The site is open from 24th May until 2nd June, then every Wednesday-Sunday in July and August.

Facilities and amenities

This is an off-grid site for those who like wild camping and glamping with toilets. The site has three eco toilets, sited in blue utility tents at different points on the land (never too far away). There is a hot shower, tap, a sink for washing up, and black bag solar showers so you can have a rinse off in the great outdoors.

Fire wood is available for sale, as are fresh organic veg boxes grown in the site's garden (depending on the season).

There is a small store in Farmlands Way in Wannock, and a Co-op store and post office in Polegate. Local farm shops at Chilleys Farm and Middle Farm are perfect for buying local produce

A note from the site themselves...

Wayfaring farm has been in the family since 1923, and we run seasonal camping so you can get the chance to enjoy it too! The farm's organic downland is home to orchids, bluebells, wild daisies and forget-me-nots to name a few- and badgers, foxes, rabbits, deer, bees and dragonflies all thrive here.

The site has never been treated with pesticides or herbicides and this has allowed many species to thrive.

Bell Tent - Bell TentsAug 2022

Close to everything you might want to explore. The hosts were lovely and helpful and around if you needed, but otherwise left you to enjoy the stay. The location was perfect, close to beaches, woodlands, Friston Forest and we even got a glimpse of the Eastbourne airshow and a stunning bright orange moon at night! The plums were delicious! We were also so surprised how incredibly well equipped the Bell tent was, we didn't want for anything and it was a pleasant surprise how well catered it is. The fact, there are only a few pitches / tents which was perfect for us and we left feeling completely refreshed, relaxed and reset to get back to the everyday grind. Already recommended to all of our friends!

Real back to the roots experience!

Medium Tent - Wild CampingAug 2022

Quiet place, with a beautiful view. Liz, lady who runs it, was very friendly and helpful. Very clean site. Short drive distance to all of the places we wanted to visit. Perfect for families.
