Established in 1974 the site remains in the same family ownership. Traditional camping with great old fashioned service and dogs welcome. Located on the coast between Exeter, Torquay and Paignton Leadstone Camping makes a great base to get out and about around the county. There is culture aplenty in Exeter and for nature lovers Dartmoor National Park is a short drive away, plus the National Nature Reserve in the Warren is a big hit.
No clubhouse and no pool are just two of the reasons campers return year after year - some for 40+ years! If it is peace and quiet you are after then Leadstone Camping could be just the site for you. Parents bring their children who bring their children who bring their children - generations of families stay at Leadstone because that is how they remember camping - the old fashioned way. Set in a natural secluded bowl, the 7 acre campsite is laid out over four fields, which are fenced and hedged to maintain that small site feel. There are no tarmac roads to be seen, just some sensible gravel tracks where it matters. All pitches have the option of electric hook-up if you just cannot manage without it! There are no hardstanding pitches here - it's a sandy subsoil so if it does get wet the rain disappears very quickly. Getting tent pegs in (and out of) the ground can be a real challenge at times, but that is all part of the fun. As the evening draws on, and the children slowly run out of steam after a busy day, campers love the fact that most are in bed by 10pm - you may even hear the sea and it's magical.
The site opens on the Friday before Whitsun and closes on the Monday following the August Bank Holiday Monday.

A lot of it is common sense, but in summary, please be thoughtful during the day when other campers are also enjoying peace and quiet and the long term policy of 'no noise after 11pm' means exactly that!
Most visitors are in bed by 10pm!
Well behaved dogs are welcome but there are restrictions on certain breeds.
The main attraction is of course the Blue Flag beach at Dawlish Warren - awarded Blue Flag status for many years now. It's lifeguarded in the main season. The Grand Prix Go-karts near the beach are great fun for all ages - there are some fast karts and two seater karts for all to enjoy.
'The car hasn't been used for a week' is a phrase frequently used here. Why would you? The bus stops at the gate taking you along the beautiful coast road to Torquay and onto Paignton for the zoo.
Plenty use the train to explore the region - the sea wall trip between Dawlish and Teignmouth and onwards is popular and it connects to the steam train at Paignton for a trip to Dartmouth - now that is a great day out. A long (but level) walk into Exeter is another adventure. Jump on the train to Plymouth with its naval history.
Take the passenger ferry to Exmouth from Starcross, it's a great little cruise on the beautiful River Exe. Just up the river lies Powderham Castle and lovely grounds - and they host a number of concerts there during the summer months.
How about trying the latest craze on water? Stand up paddleboarding, or just kayaking on the canal to a pub for lunch.
Golfing for all abilities is just around the corner at the Warren and Starcross. Hire a bike locally (or bring your own) and explore the Exe Estuary along the trail all the way around to Exmouth. There are some great downhill runs for braver cyclists in nearby Haldon Forest (there's a GoApe there as well).
If you fancy a pint there are five pubs within 10 minutes' walk, by which time you will be on the beach enjoying an ice cream. There is plenty of opportunity to enjoy a great meal locally too - pubs and the traditional seaside fare, fish and chips, ice cream, etc.
Stay for a few days or a week and you will fill every day with new experiences that'll leave you wanting to come back for more.
