About the site

Surrounded by ferns, open grasslands and ancient trees, this peaceful, family friendly site allows guests to immerse themselves in the outdoors. Set in a central New Forest location, there is no better spot for walking, cycling and wildlife watching. Smaller than many other sites in the area, there are just 40 non electric grass pitches onsite. Suitable for tents, trailer tents, campervans, caravans, RVs and motorhomes, each measures 9m x 9m and allows up to six guests. You will also be able to pick your own spot amongst the trees as pitches are unallocated. There are also pitches available for seasonal use. If you want to enjoy a spot of al fresco cooking, you are welcome to bring your own charcoal or gas BBQ along, you will just need to ensure it is raised from the ground. Campfires, fire pits and disposable BBQs are prohibited. Dogs are also welcome onsite, with up to three four-legged friends permitted per pitch. Check in is at neighbouring site Denny Wood. Please note, all guests must have access to their own chemical toilet as there are no toilets and showers onsite.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesJul 2025

we have just spent a weekend at Matley in our CV20 Camper Can and it was exactly what we needed - super relaxing and laid-back. The site itself is lovely and peaceful, nestled right on the edge of the forest, offering plenty of scenic walks, including ones to Lyndhurst and the surrounding areas. The atmosphere was incredibly friendly, with a good mix of season pitch holders and couples, making for a quiet and welcoming environment. Terry, the site warden, really stood out. He was helpful, approachable, and made sure everything ran smoothly during our stay. One particular incident that impressed us was when a van of travellers tried to tailgate a new arrival. Terry handled the situation professionally, ensuring that the disruptive group was turned away without fuss. He also keep the site immaculate. All in all, Matley is a fantastic spot for a peaceful retreat. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway in a beautiful spot.

Terry met us on site. Top bloke! Short briefing, then left us to find a pitch. Set up, we immediately began to enjoy the quiet and simplicity of the site.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesJul 2025

This is a back to basics site , just fresh water tap (fill up your tank if you have one before you arrive ) and elsan point and a good set of bins including one for food waste . You will need your own toilet and shower as this site has neither. Wild new forest ponies walk through regularly. Birds in every bush and tree . A lovely place to be one with nature. Plenty of paths and cycleways to explore from the site. Plenty of pubs and shops only a walk, ride or short drive away. Highly recommend this site , we will definitely be back .

Amazing location

Motorhome - Non Electric Grass PitchesJul 2025

One of our favourite sites. Great location set amongst trees and New Forest Ponies. Easy access from main road and not far from Lyndhurst. Great for walking directly from site. Met and greeted by Terry on site who was exceptionally helpful and informative, couldn't have been a nicer welcome. Picked our pitch which is anywhere there is space. Water and chemical waste disposal clean and tidy. All round we couldn't fault this site. Will def be returning.
