Brockenhurst campsites

Brockenhurst, meaning "badgers home" in Celtic, is one of the largest villages in the New Forest, whilst retaining an air of old world charm. It is here that ponies, donkeys and cows roam freely, and drink from the watersplash at the bottom of the main street on their way to graze the open heathland and ancient woods that surround the village. These Brockenhurst campsites have something to offer everyone.

Things to do in Brockenhurst

The village of Brockenhurst is located within the New Forest in Hampshire. Whether you’re keen to relax or get active, the village has several attractions that will suit your tastes. One of the delights of this charming village is simply strolling around it.

While it may seem like a typical town, there’s a mystery hidden beneath every pavestone on the Brockenhurst Spy Mission Treasure Trail.  Your circular route begins at the railway station from where you can visit the Anzac War Memorial and the last resting place of Brusher Mills, who rather fantastically was renowned as the New Forest snake catcher! The route is supposed to take around three hours to complete but with so much to see, pack a picnic and fill a day.

The village has attractive churches that will entice visitors with an interest in architecture. These include St Saviour's Church and the Parish Church of Saint Nicholas.  The local churchyard contains a 1000 year old Yew which some believe to be the oldest tree in the forest.

The varied terrain makes it a cycling destination for all ages and abilities but it’s most suited to recreational riders, couples and family groups.  Cyclexperience and Country Lane Cycle hire offer premium bike hire in the heart of the New Forest National Park.

Many parts of the forest, hidden to the motorist, are easily accessible by bicycle on designated gravel tracks. Horse riding is another activity well catered for by the town and local riding establishments cater for all ages and abilities.

Brockenhurst Riding Stables, A great way to see the beauty of the new forest on horse back… Your ride will take you out to the beautiful national park and will allow you to take in the wonderful views and see the wild ponies and other animals that roam and inhabit the forest.

Burley Villa School of Riding offer riding lessons for children over 4 yrs old and for those over 7 yrs, they can take you riding in the New Forest National Park. All are welcome on their rides, whether you are a regular local learning to ride or a visitor to the park.

Alternatively there are many lovely walks to enjoy in the surrounding area, all can be started from Brockenhurst village centre. The Brockenhurst walks are of varying length, ranging from 4.5 kilometres (2¾ miles) to 10 kilometres (6¼ miles).

Sightseers who are keen to explore the beautiful New Forest can also do so in a relaxed and informative way with New Forest Minibus Tours.

New Forest Activities offers a whole range of outdoor activities for families, individuals and groups from water to land based activities.  During the summer and schools holidays, special activities and programmes are put on for the kids.

Journey deep, down into the woods and discover a wonderful, wildlife surprise in The New Forest Wildlife Park.   You will meet indigenous species in their natural surroundings as you venture down the woodland trail, catching your breath as you spot animals in their natural habitat.  Set in 25 acres of the New Forest there is a vast range of animals to visit, from loveable Asian short-clawed otters, mighty European Bison to the magnificent Red Deer to name a few.

If you prefer your animals to be of the slithery and scaly kind then get down to the New Forest Reptile Centre.  There’s nothing fuzzy or fluffy here! See all of Britain’s reptiles in one place, such as adders, grass snakes, smooth snakes, lizards, frogs and toads. All of the reptiles are kept in enclosures that mimic their natural environment, which means the best chance of seeing them is on a warm sunny day!

There are also many great attractions to discover close to Brockenhurst, including the Beaulieu National Motor Museum, Beaulieu Abbey, the New Forest Museum and Appetite for Adventure which offers a variety of exciting outdoor activities. The pretty Rhinefield Ornamental Drive and the port town of Lymington are also within easy travelling distance of Brockenhurst.
