Things to do in Beaulieu
Beaulieu is an attractive Hampshire village with a whole treasure trove of attractions that really help it stand out.
Love cars? Then zoom to the Beaulieu National Motor Museum which houses more than 250 vehicles and even has beautifully engineered F1 race cars under its roof. You'll have a hoot wondering around the World of Top Gear exhibit, be wowed by past British Land Speed record attempts and then have a potter around an entirely accurate 1930s mechanic's garage. Even better, get the kids along on a summer weekend or during the school holidays to hear the purr of a few classic engines firing into life.
Don't miss the chance to visit Palace House. What once served as the 13th century Great Gatehouse of Beaulieu Abbey is now one of the ten Treasure Houses of England. Rich in history, it's packed with artefacts and the gardens are a lovely place for a stroll in the sunshine.
Next to tick off on your list should be Beaulieu Abbey, still bearing the scars of Henry VIII's destruction in the 1500s. Walk through its tranquil archways, get stuck into the story of the Cistercian Monks who founded Beaulieu Abbey and get to know falconry on the estate.
This deep in the luscious New Forest, you'll find there are more outdoor activities than you could possibly count. Hire a bike and wend your way between its picturesque villages, or get inspired by all the history and try out your archery skills. You might prefer to turn up the adrenaline with some kayaking, canoeing and speed boat tours. If you love the idea of laser tag inside a hall, you'll find Battlefield LIVE an even bigger thrill - it's the same setup but with the fun of hiding behind real trees, ducking beside real hills and getting plenty of fresh air.
The nearby village of Buckler's Hard is also a fantastic place to visit, with a maritime museum and fun cruises on the Beaulieu River to tempt you. If your little tigers need a day out nearby, take them to meet the four legged friends at the New Forest Wildlife Park.
