About North Lees Campsite
This site caters for tents and small campervans (VW or sprinter size) only, offering a beautiful location in the national park.
The nearby woodlands, farmland and moorland are managed for conservation and form part of Stanage-North Lees, which is owned by the Peak District National Park Authority.
The site comprises three gently sloping fields, with car parking spaces separate from the camping area. It is ideally suited to small tents (space on site for large tents is limited and attracts a surcharge). Perfect for getting back to nature, pitches don't include electric.
In addition to tent camping, the site also has seven cosy camping pods. These are a dry, hassle free option which acts as a kind of wooden tent. It means you don't need to worry about pitching or taking down a canvas home and has the comfort of double glazed windows, heating and lighting. They all have a covered veranda area and lockable French doors. Space for a travel cot too, if required.
One pod is designed to be fully accessible with parking alongside, height adjustable bed inside and tent camping spots close by for family and friends.
Open all year
Facilities and amenities
Facilities include flush toilets, hand basins with hot water, three showers, and a disabled/family shower, toilet and washroom. There is also a washing up point with hot water, and a drying room. A hoist and shower chair/commode are available for guests in the easy access pod.
Good pubs, restaurants, grocery shops (open until 10pm), a petrol station and outdoor shops can all be found in Hathersage one mile away. Fishing and horse riding are available in the wider area.
Small Tent - Non Electric Backpacker Grass Pitches (No Vehicles)Jun 2022
I accidentally booked the wrong weekend and the team were wonderful at squeezing me in so I could go on the weekend I had planned with some friends. The site was very clean, including the bathrooms and showers. On the last morning there was no hot water, but not the end of the world. There is a noise curfew which meant it was very quiet during the night and the fact that the car park was separate from the camping site means you aren't woken up by cars. It's a lovely walk over the hills to the town where there are some fantastic pubs.
Really enjoyed my stay and definitely given me a camping bug! Can't wait to book again.

This site was perfect for our 1st night backpacking, a scenic walk from Hathersage train station to reach this tranquil site. Clean hot showers and friendly staff.

We had a wonderful stay at North Lees in one of the camping pods. The location is fantastic: peaceful and secluded, with great walks straight from the campsite, but within easy reach of the amenities of Hathersage. We actually walked to and from Hathersage Station with all our gear; a pleasant 30ish minute walk, though may not have been so keen had it been raining!
The campsite was quiet, despite it being quite busy over the weekend with large groups. Shower and washing facilities were decent and kept clean enough considering the number of people. Some hooks/shelves to hang/store things would have been useful both in the shower block and the camping pod. Likewise, would advise bringing a thick sleeping mat or even airbed for the camping pods for a comfy night's sleep - the floor is hard!
We had a wonderful stay at North Lees and will certainly be coming again. Thank you.
