Begin your stay here with a trip to the bustling town centre and soak up the history at the Chesterfield Museum and Art Gallery before taking the steps up to admire the town church’s crooked spire.
Afterwards, why not wander by the Chesterfield canal? The Cuckoo Way is a popular route for walking the entire length of the canal, where you’ll spot an abundance of wildlife. There are also a number of circular routes to explore or perhaps time your visit with a canal boat ride.
Under half a mile away from the town is Queen’s Park, where little ones can enjoy messing about in numerous play areas or get the whole family involved for a kickabout before tucking into a picnic. Didn’t bring food? Not a problem, there’s a café here too serving a range of tasty dishes.
If it’s not outdoor weather, there’s plenty of fun to be had at the Queen’s Park Sports Centre. Beat the obstacles on the inflatable aqua course or swim a few lengths in the 8 lane swimming pool. You can also work up a sweat in the sports hall with a game of badminton, squash, basketball, table tennis and more.
In the evening, head to Chesterfield Bowl and get competitive with ten pin bowling! Aim for a strike at one of the 16 lanes before a game of pool. At weekends, try out Glow Bowling running on Saturdays and Sundays 12-2pm.
Little ones can also roam free in the adventure play area at The Jungle Chesterfield. Kids up to 11 can swing on the frames and have fun on the slide, tunnels and plenty of soft obstacles too. Older members of the family can catch their breath with a hot cuppa at the Jungle Café.
Head out of the village and you’ll find plenty of attractions to visit including Chatsworth House. Explore its Victorian maze before taking the kids to meet the animals at the farmyard. There’s also a woodland playground here with a trampoline, slides, a rope park and more.
Inside the house, admire the collection of antiques and art in over 30 rooms, including the Painted Hall and Sketch Galleries, before kicking back with an afternoon tea.
Or pay a visit to Holmebrook Valley Country Park on the outskirts of the village. Spot the wildlife on a stroll by the lake and take in the stunning views over Chesterfield.
Nature lovers can also enjoy exploring the Linacre Reservoirs. Take in the breathtaking scenery of the bluebell woodland and find a picnic spot by one of the three reservoirs.
Nearby Chesterfield, you can wander through the ruins of Sutton Scarsdale Hall or explore Bolsover Castle and amble to the Fountain Garden before soaking up the scenery along the castle’s wall walk.
