Things to do in St Austell
The star of the St Austell show is the nearby Porthpean Beach on St Austell Bay (just a couple of miles from the town centre), which is a great place for family fun and enjoyable beach strolls. In the summer months it can get quite busy here, but there are plenty of rock pools and watersports to enjoy.Â
Beach lovers will also enjoy discovering the three beaches at Carlyon Bay, just two miles east of the town centre and offering more sandy stretches to explore if Porthpean Beach seems too busy.Â
Cornwall has a long history of beer brewing and the St Austell Brewery is certainly not to be missed! There is also a tour of the Victorian Brewery available too, which will really get you ready for a refreshing pint.
Kids and adults alike are sure to get a kick out of Cornwall Football Golf. This is the only UK centre for this hybrid sport and it is a brilliant way to spend a sunny afternoon! Alternatively, those preferring a more traditional game of golf will love the St Austell Golf Club, or the nearby Porthpean Golf Club with their well maintained fairways and pretty views.
Nearby, enjoy a spot of history at both the Charlestown Shipwreck & Heritage Centre and Wheal Martyn.Â
Â
For families, Kidzworld Adventure Play is brilliant if the weather if grey, while animal lovers will enjoy the Wingz Bird Sanctuary. Nature lovers also shouldn't miss the local gardens, from the beautiful Lost Gardens of Heligan, to the Eden Project, Tregrehan Garden and Pinetum Park.
The villages of Charlestown and Polperro - and their traditional Cornish harbours - are a haven for boat lovers to explore.
