About the site


Surrounded by countryside views, this quiet site is an ideal base for exploring the Peak District National Park! Enjoy easy access to popular walking and cycling routes, including the Tissington Trail, directly opposite the site. Onsite, there are 22 spacious grass pitches, all measuring 12m x 8m and suitable for tents, roof tents and small VW campervans (up to 5.3m). Ten pitches include a 10 amp electric hook up. The campsite is also available for exclusive hire, making it ideal for groups, private events and gatherings. A dedicated DofE area is available too. Although the Bull i' th' Thorn itself is now closed, the sister pub, The Royal Oak, is a cosy traditional pub just a ten minute walk or five minute drive away, serving home-cooked classics including steaks, pies, burgers and Sunday roasts. Don't forget to stop at Tagg Lane Dairy, a 15 minute walk away, with a selection of ice creams and gelatos made from their Jersey dairy herd. While visiting, spend your days discovering nearby towns such as Buxton (10 minutes), a historic spa town with an array of attractions, including Pavilion Gardens and Poole's Cavern, perfect for a family day out. Bakewell, famous for its Bakewell pudding, can also be reached within 15 minutes. Up to two dogs are permitted per pitch. Please keep them on leads. You can also bring your pup along to the local pub (10 minutes)! Raised BBQs and fire pits are welcome onsite.

Onsite there are unisex facility blocks with three toilets and hot showers, plus an outdoor washing up area with two sinks. These are located by the stable and barn building, close to the pitches. Guests will also have access to the two family rooms, each with a toilet, shower, and sink.

For kids, there's a play area. EV charging is available too.

Although the Bull i' th' Thorn itself is now closed, the site's sister pub, The Royal Oak, is a ten minute walk away via a public footpath. It's a country pub open daily and serves a range of hot food between 12pm-9pm, including steaks, burgers, and Sunday roasts, as well as breakfast from 8:30am-11am on weekend mornings. Tagg Lane Dairy is also a 15 minute walk away.

For camping essentials, Barn Close Farm is a 25 minute walk away, or Longnor General Store is a ten minute drive.

Things to do on site and in the Buxton area

The site is ideally located in the Peak District National Park, offering access to a wide range of walking and cycling routes for all abilities. Parkhouse Hill is just a ten minute drive away, while the popular Chee Dale Stepping Stones (15 minutes) provides a scenic trail through a limestone ravine, with sections crossing stepping stones along the riverbanks.

The Tissington Trail, a former railway line, can be reached just opposite the site. Monyash is just five minutes by car, with the Limestone Way passing through and providing access to some of the area's best-known walks through Lathkill Dale. There is also Padley Gorge (National Trust), which is 30 minutes away.

History lovers are within easy reach of Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow (5 minutes), as well as Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House, both 15 minutes away.

You're also well placed to explore Buxton (10 minutes), the highest market town in England, home to Poole's Cavern, Buxton Opera House, Go Ape Buxton and Pavilion Gardens (15 minutes). Don't forget to visit Bakewell (15 minutes) to try its famous Bakewell pudding and access the Monsal Trail.

For water-based adventures, Three Shires Head (20 minutes) is definitely worth a visit.
