Green adventures
Love a walk along the coast? From dog friendly strolls to a ramble along the smooth dunes of Pendine Sands, you'll find it all here.
For country treks, you'd be hard pressed to ever run out of exciting routes in the Brecon Beacons National Park, but one of the top picks would be Llyn y Fan Fach, a dammed lake in the Brecon Beacons area which offers excellent scenic views of the Carmarthen Fans and Black Mountain in the background.
No hike would be complete of course without the Black Mountain itself and Picws Du, Myndd y Betws and Burry Holms are other well-known walking spots.
Impressive castles and magic museums
Hear the battle cry of days gone by when you conquer three great castles by the Taf - Laugharne, Llansteffan and Kidwelly - for great views and tasty picnicking spots. Laugharne has its own charming castle and truly romantic poet's hideaway - Dylan Thomas' lonely boathouse.
Newton House in Dinefwr Park is also well worth visiting, and Skanda Vale a Hindo monastery with its interesting temples is popular too.
Museum of Speed to find out all about it.
There are also plenty of fascinating museums in the area. The National Wool Museum, the Parc Howard Museum and Art Gallery, and the Pendine Museum of Speed are all worth visiting. The Tin Shed Experience is an unusual museum and is also good fun.
A trip on the old steam trains through the countryside at the Gwili Railway is enjoyable for all ages, and the National Botanic Garden of Wales is where you can see some exotic and rare plants and is another family friendly day trip. The Dolaucothi Gold Mines is another must see, and provides a fascinating insight into the mining history of the area. .
