Coity Castle will impress those interested in history and architecture, built in the 12th Century by one of the Knights of the area. Newcastle Castle is also with a visit,
particularly for its impressive circular stonework, as is Ogmore Castle where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed. The ruins of the 13th Century Morlais Castle is also worth a trip.

The landscape in the area is a walker's paradise and the famous Taff Trail which follows the course of the river is great for walkers and cyclists alike. Cosmeston Lakes Country Park is also a pleasant area for gentle walks, or head to the shores of Barry Island for coastal views and spotting local bird and marine life. Barry Island Pleasure Park is also popular with families. Porthcal is another area celebrated for its delightful beaches where a range of water sports such as surfing and kayaking are available. Along the coast you can also discover Llantwit Major -a charming village with a number of interesting ancient buildings as well as pretty countryside and caves to explore. Kenfig Nature Reserve is another popular spot where endangered plants and animals thrive, it is also where you can find the last natural lake in the area.

Other attractions of note include Nash Point Lighthouse which was constructed in the mid-19th century and was the last manned lighthouse in the country, Porthkerry Country park, Merthyr Mawr Sand Dunes, and the Dyffryn Gardens and Arboretum.
