About the site

Tucked in the North York Moors National Park with views across the countryside toward the sea, the site is a great spot for exploring the moors and coast. The pitches are well spaced, grassed and fully serviced with water, drainage and electric to the pitch. It's well placed for Scarborough, Robin Hood's Bay and all the Gothic attractions of Whitby. The North York Moors are a very popular walking and cycling area and excellent routes are everywhere you look, such as the Esk Valley Walk, Tabular Hills Walk and Lyke Wake Walk. The site benefits from easy access, being just a couple of miles from the main Scarborough to Whitby road, great for touring caravans and motorhomes. A local beach lies just a couple of miles away and from there you can walk to Robin Hood's Bay or to Ravenscar to see the seal colony there.

The site is open from Easter until the start of October.

Things to do on site and in the Scarborough area

This is a lovely spot for exploring the North Yorks National Park as well as Scarborough, Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. Pickering, Goathland and York are just a bit further away.

Keen walkers will be pleased to hear that the site is close to the Cleveland Way walking trail and the Moors to Sea cycle route, as well as the Old Cinder Track which runs between Scarborough and Whitby.

Cycling and walking are very popular in the national park and you'll be rewarded with unbelievable sea and moorland views in all directions.

There is access to the pebbly beach from Ravenscar. There is a path round the edge of the golf course at Raven Hall Hotel and access depends upon the tide, but once reached the location is well worth it, although the 600ft climb down and back up is very strenuous.

The beach at Stoupe Beck Sands is lovely and sandy and is accessed two miles from the site. It is a lovely walk to Robin Hood's Bay along the beach (tide permitting, or on the cliff top path when the tide is in).

A disused railway line from Whitby to Scarborough is very pleasant for hiking and passes by the Hayburn Wyke Pub. Alum shale shaped the coast you see now, so why not explore the old Alum Works in Ravenscar and the National Trust Centre which offers hands-on activities and exhibitions for adults and children.

For hot meals, The Bryerstones Inn at Cloughton (4 miles away) is highly recommended, as is The Falcon Inn (2 miles away), but there are many other good options in the area.
