Things to do in Hathersage
Hathersage is your base for exploring Derbyshire and the Peak District. After pitching up your tent, spend the day walking to Stanage Edge and gaze out to the incredible views of the countryside. Don’t miss out on a visit to Robin Hood’s cave either!
Another great viewpoint is from Surprise View. Soak up the views over the village whilst enjoying a picnic and perhaps stay to watch the sunset. You could also enjoy a spot of stargazing as the viewpoint is an official spot for looking up to famously dark skies.
Alternatively, admire the stunning scenery at the ruins of Peveril Castle. Enjoy the spectacular views over the Hope Valley before learning about the history of the fortress in the Visitor Centre.
Head further into the Hope Valley and enjoy a picnic at Ladybower Reservoir. Spot the wildlife whilst tucking into your sandwich before heading up to Bamford Edge to take in the beauty of the reservoir from above.
If the kids fancy a swim, take them to Hathersage Swimming Pool. Enjoy splashing around with the youngsters or swim a few lengths in the open air lido – fully heated to suit all kinds of weather.
Soak up the history of the town and visit the inspiration behind Charlotte Bronte’s 'Jane Eyre'. Lovers of literature can see the famous vicarage where the author was writing her novel before heading to St Michael’s Church to see the grave of Robin Hood’s friend, and right hand man, Little John.
Afterwards, book a day on the putting green at Sickleholme Golf Club. Keen golfers can enjoy perfecting their skills on the green before winding down with a tipple or two at the bar.
When you’ve finished exploring the village, head further out to Sheffield and walk around the Botanical Gardens or spend the day admiring the artefacts at Clifton Park museum before a picnic on the grounds.
