Things to do when camping in the Highlands
There are a huge number of castles and buildings of interest in the area. Eilean Donan Castle has a grand banqueting hall that is sure to impress, Lochleven Castle can only be reached by boat, Brodie Castle has impressive turrets and is packed with a variety of art and antiques, Urqhart Castle is one of the largest in Scotland, and Muness Castle is an impressive 16th Century Tower House.
There are plenty of museums, heritage sites and exciting attractions in the area too. The Scottish Hydro Electric Visitor Centre in Pitlochry is where you can visit the famous Salmon Ladder. The Culloden Battlefield in Inverness is where the 1746 battle between the Duke of Cumberland and Prince Charle took place. The Bora Heritage Centre is a family friendly attraction, the Titanic Inverness Maritime Museum will impress old and young, the Highland Folk Museum is a must see, and Fort Charlotte is another building of note with fantastic views.
Another great family attraction is the Landmark Forest Theme Park which boasts numerous rides as well as rock climbing, walking and spotting local wildlife such as the rare red squirrel. The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre is another fantastic day out for adults and children alike, while the WDCS Dolphin and Seal Centre is also hugely popular.
The Landscape of the Highlands is truly beautiful and walks are in abundance here. Glen Coe, Ben Nevis, Bealach na Ba Road, the Steall Waterfall, and Camusdarach Beach are popular scenic areas among many more.
