Things to do in St Davids
Wales' lavish green countryside surrounds the ancient city of St Davids. Incredible coastal scenery, fun wildlife watching boat trips and striking architecture are all part of the mix in this city.
If you're seeking coastal adventure, you've come to the right place. The Wales Coast Path brushes past this urban area, tempting you to hop off and see more of the spectacular coastline. Closer to the rugged cliffs and blue sea, the coastline is home to TYF, which is ready to dose you up with excitement: kayaking, coasteering, surfing and rock climbing for young and old.
Next, master the waves with a boat trip, available through Voyages of Discovery and Thousand Islands Expeditions. Explore the beautiful Ramsey Island RSPB Nature Reserve and saunter on other scenic islands in the area - who knows what treasures you might find? And if you'd rather the flip of a fin than the chirp of a bird, book in for their whale and dolphin watching trips - they're an unforgettable experience.
Plenty of thrills are also on offer through Venture Jet where you can top off gorgeous scenery with wildlife watching on a jet powered RIB. Skirt the coast and keep your eyes peeled for any friendly critters! You'll be zoomed into caves, coves and under waterfalls so that you can see Pembrokeshire like never before.
Now that you've met the animal kingdom, head back on land to wander magnificent St. Davids Cathedral. It has a history that extends beyond William the Conqueror and saw plenty of action during the Civil War. Within its echoing halls you'll find boatloads of history, intrigue and unique architecture.
The attractive ruins of St Davids Bishop's Palace are also well worth exploring. With so much drama around you, grab an open air theatre performance in the ruins and feel the power of the ancient medieval church. There's plenty of intricate stonework to photograph and the site runs regular animal spotting events, too.
If you've always fancied yourself the next Picasso, get some unbeatable inspiration at the Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre. Browse great landscape painters, including the current artist in residence who lives on site in a tower. Don't miss the St David's Day Stone just outside, a spot where at noon on St David's Day a scared verse is lit up by the sun. Now you're armed with plenty of artistic talent to match, you can get hands-on and enjoy excellent glass workshops courtesy of the Steve Robinson Glass Gallery.
There are other interesting places to visit close by such as the remains of St Non's Chapel with its superb views and riveting history. St David's Head, the superb Whitesands Bay and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park are unmissable places to explore nearby too.
