Things to do in Swansea

A town tour with a difference, The Swansea Treasure Trail, offers lots of fun and adventure to be had for all the family on the Swansea Maritime Quarter self-guided treasure hunt themed Treasure Trail.  Kids and grown-ups will need to work together to find and solve the clues and complete this mystery.  The Trail is just under two miles long and is done in your own time and at your own pace. 

Plantasia Swansea, explore this unique tropical haven of wonderful plants and animals situated in the heart of the city, from insects, reptiles, fish and monkeys to bananas, pineapple plants, prickly cacti and giant bamboo: Plantasia has it all!

Want to enjoy the sunshine… Singleton Park is home to a boating lake plus crazy golf, adventure playground, botanical gardens and a museum, so there's plenty to do here if you're up for everything. Choose between a dragon or swan pedalo to take to the water or enjoy a casual family tournament on the 18-hole crazy golf course, go bananas on the adventure playground, or explore the spectacular herbaceous borders and large glasshouses of Singleton Botanical Gardens.

If the weather is not on your side Toots Play Centre and Balloon Emporium have six slides, a multi-level soft play frame with ball pit and loads of other classic features well delivered, plus a bouncy castle, trike track, and the wonderful dedicated baby soft play area which is full of the same pleasures on a smaller scale. Great for keeping the kids fit and healthy, happy and busy, developing gross motor and social skills. And of course, you get coffee and the chance to watch them in action.

A day out at Aberdulais Tinworks and Waterfall does exactly what it says on the tin. Visit a stunning waterfall and choose from the plethora of family activities that will keep everyone happy.  Make sure to pick up a tin-detective pack and travel along the sensory trail. Can you find the clues and uncover the secrets of Aberdulais?

Providing adventurous outdoor activities all over Gower and its surrounding areas for over 30 years, Gower Activity Centres has the expertise to give you the best possible experience whenever you decide from rock climbing, surfing, canoeing, gorge walking, seashore, woodland and river studies to guided walks.

If history is your thing learn all about Swansea's history in their great museums.  The National Waterfront Museum tells a story of the Welsh industry now and over the last 30 years and it's the perfect place to learn more about Swansea's history. And just around the corner is the amazing Swansea Museum, which boasts an Egyptian mummy amongst its various treasures.

Are you a sport fan? Then head to Liberty Stadium to explore behind the scenes of the stadium, have a chance to walk through the tunnel, sit in the home team dressing room seats and to be shown around the television studios.

The beaches here have won awards, and plenty of them – including 10th best beach in the world. Pretty amazing stuff. You don’t have to travel far from the city centre to enjoy the coast. In fact, Swansea Bay Beach is only minutes away, and it’s a Watersports Centre of Excellence!

Head a little further from the city, around Mumbles head, and you’ll find Bracelet Bay. It’s great for rock pooling and you can enjoy delicious ice creams with a fine view of Mumbles lighthouse too.

It’s hard to talk about Gower without mentioning Rhossili Bay - Wales’ Best Beach 2017 and one of the UK’s Top 10 Beaches.   It’s a haven for wildlife too with many different breeds of bird nesting in the cliffs - so don’t forget your binoculars.

If you’re looking to catch some waves, head to Langland Bay, Caswell Bay or Llangennith, bring out the adrenaline junkie inside you and hop on a surfboard! Oxwich Bay and Horton are family favourites, they’re spacious and safe with plenty of sand to let your sand-sculpting creativity loose. Many beaches in Swansea Bay are dog friendly too - which means even furry, four-legged family members can enjoy.

Swansea Bay offers many memorable walking routes, from short family trips, taking in many of the small churches and landmarks in the area, to routes for the more experienced, with breathtaking views of the Gower Peninsula.

In fact, glorious Rhossili, on the westernmost point of Gower, is one of the Telegraphs 'Top 10 British Walks' and The Times’ '20 Greatest Rural British Walks'.

And of course, it’s not just about the coast: inland, Gower is an astonishingly varied landscape, teeming with flora and fauna you won’t want to miss. Try The Gower Way for a challenging trek across the Peninsula. Or head to the green ‘Waterfall Country’ of the Vale of Neath, just east of Swansea, to find completely different scenery.
