Things to do in Polzeath
Polzeath rests on the Cornish coast and is a peaceful village with a fantastic beach and friendly locals- it's beauty has already been featured in Poldark and Doc Martin, adding a touch of fame to the experience.
There are plenty of attractions nearby and you can enjoy extensive cycling and footpaths as well as water sports such as swimming, surfing (for which the area is famed) and kayaking (try Cornish Rock Tours) all at your fingertips. Skirted by the bays of North Cornwall, its climate is blissful, making this the perfect retreat. Relaxation has never looked so good!
Once you pull yourself away from the sea, add some zing to your holiday with Coronation Garderns, just opposite the beach. Put a spring in the kids' step with trampolining, a bouncy castle or even tennis and crazy golf- they suit the air of seaside calm perfectly.
Walking west of the village along the coastal path will take you to Greenaway Beach where you can explore rock pools and pebbles, further on Daymer Bay is perfect for swimming, particularly for those with young children. Stick around for sunset when the colours in the sky give the beach an intensely beautiful rosy glow.
The historic St Enodoc Church is also a must see, buried in the sand dunes this church has an enigmatic mystery and is the resting place of English poet John Betjeman whose poem about Slough is well known.
The Camel Trail, far from being a feature of the desert, is an accessible cycle track which stretches alongside the River Camel. This 17 mile route is great for those who want to explore the surrounding countryside and you can hire bikes from Wadebridge and Padstow, both just a short distance away.
The market town of Wadebridge boasts a sports centre and swimming pool as well as plenty of boutique arts and crafts shops. Padstow is another easy day trip where you can explore Prideaux Place, an imposing Victorian manor house.
The National Lobster Hatchery, Tintagel Castle and Lanhydrock (an country estate) are all near and make for exciting day trips. Newquay is also close by and is where you can find the award winning Newquay Blue Reef Aquarium as well as visit the exotic animal species at Newquay Zoo.
