Things to do in Llanberis
The Welsh village of Llanberis is found in Gwynedd on the vibrant shores of Padarn Lake (Llyn Padarn). It's the perfect base for exploring the stunning Snowdonia National Park and breathing in the fresh air. This area is all about outdoor activities, and you can't fail to find one that suits.
Kids and adults who are eager to get active will be in safe hands with Padarn Adventures. With options such as kayaking, abseiling, rock climbing, a high ropes course and a kids' adventure course, there's no shortage of fun to be had here.
Lake Padarn is a beautiful spot for walks in incredible scenery or simply admiring the view. Once you've worked out your legs a bit, a fun cruise on the Snowdon Star and watersports such as kayaking and canoeing will show you the lake from a whole new angle. Plus sightseers can also explore Llyn Peris, an adjacent lake, as well as the picturesque ruins of Dolbadarn Castle.
The nearby National Slate Museum is worth making time for, with intriguing talks, demonstrations and a variety of workshops to captivate the minds of visitors.
For something different, why not also visit Electric Mountain, First Hydro Company's visitor centre, for a tour of Dinorwig Power Station and to feel the power of the elements in full force.
The charming Llanberis Lake Railway will take you 5 miles around the sensational lake, in the retro comfort of a steam engine. If you're interested in taking a step back into the past, this is the way to bring it to life. The railway travels through lovely Padarn Country Park and along the shore of Padarn Lake to Penllyn and is a great way to see some of the attractions in the area.
Sightseers who are keen to visit stunning Mount Snowdon can access the Llanberis Path which starts in the village and is the most gradual of the paths that lead to the summit. It's the perfect option for those with time, who want to take on the challenge slowly. Alternatively reach the summit in laidback style thanks to the Snowdon Mountain Railway. The journey provides superb views of the surrounding countryside and is an unforgettable trip.
There are a number of interesting places to explore nearby as well including the town of Caernarfon with its impressive castle, the city of Bangor and the striking landscapes within the Snowdonia National Park.
