Things to do in Bournemouth
Undoubtedly the biggest reason to visit this popular seaside town is the seven miles of sandy beaches. In the summer particularly, the pier beach has a real buzz and attracts visitors and locals alike down to the water for walks, swimming, volleyball, surfing, kitesurfing, stand up paddleboarding and kayaking.
And a game of mini golf at Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf of course.
Adrenaline junkies will love the outdoor zip line which runs from the pier and sends you speeding over the water back to the shore - and it doesn't hurt that it's surrounded by bars and restaurants either.
A visit to picturesque Hengistbury Head will reward those with an interest in archaeology, geology and wildlife. It is a great place to go if Bournemouth's main beach is busy and offers a quieter area to take a walk or paddle. There is a good café here too. Alum Chine beach is also nearby and is a quieter alternative to fighting the crowds, especially in the summer months.
Culture vultures will enjoy the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery, House & Museum, which is a fascinating attraction with stunning works of art, beautiful Victorian architecture and well-kept gardens. Art lovers will also enjoy visiting the Westover Gallery which has an interesting mix of modern art pieces.
After a long day exploring Bournemouth, head to Lower Gardens to relax - it's just a short stroll from the beach. Central Gardens and Upper Gardens are also lovely locations for sightseers wanting to escape the hustle and bustle.
For rainy days, a trip to the Oceanarium is an ideal way to get close to wonderful marine wildlife including otters, penguins and sharks. Alternatively, head to Rock Reef's indoor climbing or, for those with smaller children, try Lollipops Indoor Soft Play Cafe.
Those looking to embrace Bournemouth's nightlife, will find a variety of bars, restaurants and clubs spread across the town, starting at the beach. The Bournemouth International Centre events venue has a year round programme of performances too, so why not check to see what’s going on when you visit.
Further afield, there is plenty to explore along the Jurassic Coast, a stunning World Heritage Site that stretches 96 miles across Southern England. The towns of Christchurch and Poole offer interesting day trips too, while a trip to Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour provides the chance to see rare red squirrels.
Corfe Castle is also fun to explore, while you can easily lose a day in the town of Swanage with its pretty bay.
