Things to do in Weymouth

Weymouth Beach is a must-visit when on holiday in Dorset, famous for its soft sand, clean and clear waters, with a range of activities that the kids will love. As well as the opportunity for a dip, you'll also find rides, donkeys and pedalos.  The kids will love the Sandworld Sculpture Park too, which has some genuinely jaw dropping Disney-inspired sand sculptures.Â
Weymouth Harbour has plenty to keep sightseers busy, and a stroll around the harbour and up to Nothe Fort will be time well spent. It's one of Weymouth's top attractions and visitors of all ages will enjoy exploring the military museum. Just beware - the fort is said to be haunted!
The Tudor ruins of Sandsfoot Castle, with its well kept gardens, are also well worth visiting.Â
Back at the harbour, a boat trip is a great chance to check out the local wildlife. Alternatively, the Weymouth Sea Life Adventure Park is sure to keep the family entertained, with turtles, stingrays and seals. It's a great option for rainy days too - as is the Fun Factory soft play.Â
Children will also enjoy the Weymouth 4 Kids themed treasure trail. The 2.5 mile walk around Weymouth requires some puzzle solving and booklets can be downloaded in advance.
Those who prefer green spaces should head for RSPB Weymouth Wetlands at Radipole Lake Nature Reserve, the Greenhill Gardens, and the Bennetts Water Gardens - all providing picturesque surroundings for gentle strolls and quiet contemplation.
For those of you who are comfortable dealing with heights, the moveable observation tower at Jurassic Skyline takes you 53 metres up, offering 360 degree views over nearby Portland and the Jurassic Coast.
The 18-mile pebble and shingle Chesil Beach runs from Abbotsbury in the west to the Isle of Portland. The stones make for an excellent fossil hunting playground, while the lagoon behind the bank is the perfect habitat for Abbotsbury Swannery's 600+ mute swans. A visit there is a Dorset highlight.
Also at Abbotsbury are the Children's Farm, Subtropical Gardens and St Catherine's Chapel, which will reward your efforts in walking up the hill with stunning views across West Dorset.
At opposite end of the beach, at the Isle of Portland, walkers can enjoy wonderful walks along the Weymouth to Portland Railway Walk, and up to the Portland Plateau.Â
The nearby West Dorset Heritage Coast and Dorset AONB offer plenty to enchant nature lovers, while West Lulworth and a climb across the headlands to Durdle Door is perhaps Dorset's best photo opportunity.
