Things to do in Salcombe

Salcombe is brilliant for a seaside getaway, with beautiful natural surroundings and plenty of fun activities to enjoy. Start your break by exploring the coastline and beautiful range of beaches. Hope Cove Beach is perfect for children with its rock pools and sheltered waters, while East Portlemouth is worth the short ferry ride from town. Bantham and Challaborough are also nearby, along with Bigbury-on-Sea and its tractor rides to Burgh Island.

Thurlestone Sands / South Milton Sands is another spot that's well worth a visit, where a wide family friendly beach backs onto a nature reserve owned by the National Trust. Thurlestone Village is pretty too, with thatched roof cottages and pubs.

If you are keen to get out on the water, try Sea-N-Shore where you'll find powerboat rides and courses, wakeboarding, waterskiing, coasteering, banana boats and wildlife-watching boat trips.

Back on dry land, walkers will enjoy the Salcombe to Bolt Head Walk and walks on Bolberry Down. Salcombe is also a good base for exploring the South West Coast Path. The East Portlemouth and Gara Rock Trail is a short ferry ride from Salcombe and offers a stunning cliff walk.

For a more relaxed stroll, Overbeck's is a National Trust property with an Edwardian-style house, beautiful sub-tropical gardens and a fascinating museum. It is well maintained by the National Trust and has plants from all over the world in its gardens.

Also not to be missed is a trip to the Salcombe Maritime Museum which provides great insight into the town's maritime history with a massive collection of photographs, models, artefacts and paintings.  Adults will also love the Salcombe Distilling Company, where you can make your own gin!

Places to visit nearby include the Kingsbridge Estuary, the South Devon AONB, as well as Dartmouth which is around 20 miles away. Don't miss the impressive Dartmouth Castle.
